Bulb to LED light conversion

I have 11 double fixtures that contain 921 bulbs with the wedge base.
I would like to convert over to an LED type replacement light, but would like to drop the brightness down. I have clear lens and for the 921 bulbs I have read it puts out 265 lumen. Has anyone done a conversion from the 921 bulb? If so, what did you go with and did you go with an equivalent brightness or less? thanks, Tom
  • check these out, this is a good supplier, with good products that I have used in my home and rv. www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&2011_led&rt=nc

I looked at the m4 site and did not see where they were made in the USA... some are assembled in the USA with leds from China. The only US manufacturer I've been able to find is CREE in NC but only in 120V.
I would suggest a LED panel in warm white for $0.36 each delivered or $12 from M4:S. A 921 is the same as a T10 wedge base.
PS, I've bough over 60 different LEDs from China on Ebay over the last four years and to date I've had one fail.
  • If you replace your bulbs with multi LED bulbs, all it takes is a small paint brush and some black paint to adjust the brightness to whatever you feel comfortable with. One of those little jars of model paint, in black, worked fine for me. Just dab it on to block the light from as many LED's as you need. In the future, if you want the light back, just scrape off the paint.

Thanks Dave and Jerry for your input and links. The 921 incandescent bulbs make me feel like I'm in surgery. I think they're way to bright and so does my wife.
Do you know Jerry which 921 replacement LEDs you went with? I may have to buy 1 set at a time to see.
The photo with the LEDs on that comparison I gave you has the 921 LED bulb catalog number. I bought them from superbrightleds.com.

Go to m4products.com and look at their products. They have replacements for all, even fluorescents. Brightness varies too. Cool white and natural will give you different types of light. They have a very good descriptions as to what the different led types give you in lighting effects. This is one of many sellers out there but the one I used to convert my lights. For areas I thought were too bright, I just installed a dimmer that way I could set my lighting to a level that I wanted to have.

Thanks 1nshort, that is an excellent site and are USA made. I noticed a lot of the ones on Amazon are from China. :)

  • I had some 921 incandescents. Replaced with 921 LEDs. Was very disappointed with how dim the 921 LEDs were. Here' a link for some comparisons I made back then. It looks like the 921s a the above Amazon link would be brighter than what I bought back then.
