Bully Dog Programmer

Anyone used the Bully Dog Big Rig programmer? Improves fuel economy and increases horsepower.

We had one in our old 2012 2500 Mega Cab with the 5.7L Hemi.

We loved it. When we bought truck for normal mileage we were 8-9 in city and 11-12 highway.
With trailer(40' fifth wheel 11K) we were getting the 8-9 on the highway.

So I installed it and by the time we traded the truck it was 12 city and 18 on highway.
With the trailer 11-12 and it had plenty of power to spare.

I also changed out the stock muffler. I cut it off right at the muffler inlet and outlet leaving all stock pipe then welded in a Flowmaster towing muffler.
After that I added a cold air intake and the truck ran amazing. Never hot. Temps never climbed and since you can monitor everything it was nice to see the temps of intake and others.
We always left the unit in the vehicle so we could watch and tell.

Wife wanted a bigger trailer so I needed a bigger truck so we bought the diesel and thinking about doing it to this one as well.
. Time for my rant????? Bought the 50 state legal BD for our 2010 Ram 3500 CTD and had it installed last year before roundtrip CA o TX trip towing 13.5 k fiver. The BD was for 2007.5 to 2010 Ram CTD and techs said they did not yet have tune available for 2010 non cab and chassis (pickup). Have had it stuck to the windshield and worthless since March 2015!!!!!!!!!!

Tom, I'm interested on how you and Barb did climbing up the West Side of Chinook Pass? That switchback is so steep I seen goats walking up it backwards!

We've never had reason to do Highway 410 in this coach.

We run a Banks programer on our Cummins 350 ISC. after 40,000 miles over the amount of fuel we have bought the coach has delivered 9.5 miles per gallon. the fuel used by the get-set is in that milage. we seldom see any added horse power, but if you stand on it long enough it will run the EGT into the red arc.
I've never seen it over heat the engine, even on Mt Washington pass on #20 north cascades highway's long grade into Rainey pass, never any black smoke. the EGTs will run about 1300 degrees at full throttle. my normal speed on the freeways is 65, set the cruise at 65, put the transmission in Economy and let the computer drive it.

  • You will probably get a little more power. Your engine will also probably run hotter when pulling a long grade. Don't even think you're going to get improved mileage.

Been there, done that, and wore out the tee-shirt.
