Count me in on buying a former rental. This thread was helpful as it didn't take long to see that the best value out there is a good condition rental. Yes I had nightmares of a dozen people on the roof after traveling down 30 miles of washboard road to get to the off-road rally with a beer swilling party after. Best advise I found was treat the deal like any other 'used' purchase... stay sharp, investigate, poke prod, leave no stone yada yada yada. I found the thread heavy on Cruise Am and El Monte info, and I suppose that is for good reason. I bought my Thor Freedom Elite from Camping World who is getting out of the rental business and selling all units. Only a year old but has some mileage... 45k. Driven a bunch but lightly used if that makes sense. Very little signs of wear or scuff marks in drawers or cargo holds. Tires and batts had been replaced and was detailed to the point of looking like new. Even the places the CW decals were removed could not be found. Time will tell how things go, but one thing I'm sure of... all those 'new off the lot' problems have already been taken care of. I'll keep this thread posted... ~Z
Your saying CW is getting out of rentals? First I've heard. I thought they would be the last to exit rental market. Saw many rentals at Yellowstone last couple weeks. Mostly Cruise America, then El Monte, then several rentals from Salt Lake city area. Couple next to us paid $2,300 for 1 week and they said they'll have to pay more because of mileage. Even saw a new one (to me) http://www.jucyrentals.com/
Every time I see a rental I always look at the valve stem set up for inside dual rear tires and wheel simulators. Most have a mickey mouse system as I've found out. Took me about $300.00 to get good system set up that I can check and fill air and simulator doesn't come off going down the road.
