OK- so CA say they don't replace the mattress as part of the refurbishment. Which is fair enough I guess. Can anyone tell me what size the 'queen' mattress really is in the 28a so I can order a replacement?
Thanks
Derek
Hi, welcome to the club
Our 27G had an outer washable cover and an inner plastic cover over the mattress which made the bed sweat. We cut off the cover which was later used as a working groundsheet when underneath! Mattress was then in a perfect condition. To improve the comfort we brought an IKEA topper (you call them a mattress pad in America) which was very comfortable
Then the "piece de resistance" I fitted under the mattress an Ikea
slatted base.
The base is in 2 sections so each side of the bed has its own support and it will flex with your weight. This allowed fresh air to circulate under the mattress.
The bed is a standard American short queen which meant we had to cut off about 4 inches from the new slatted bed frame. All this however does make the bed higher! We had a Bolom Ikea step stool each side to allow for this.
Before doing this however look under the bottom of the mattress and see if there is a screw down panel over your water storage tank. I removed this and then fitted a winterising kit for the water system where the existing plug is above the tank. Cut a hole in the side of the frame on the drivers side for access to the valves. Otherwise you have to lift the mattress every time! I also fitted a shoe cupboard in the space above the tank with access towards the front
I would attach some photos but I do not think it is possible
