Buying an RV (A or C) from a national rental chain

There are cars on the road that are owned, leased or rented and then sold. Same with RVs. But the leased and rented ones are at least cleaned up and repaired if needed (at the renter/lessee's expense). Buying from a private owner is a cr*p shoot at best.
