That doe not apply to all RV rental companies. Cruise America does not install awnings, roof ladders, slides, rear cameras, external steps for the coach door (the steps are inside), over-the-air TV antennas, or leveling jacks. These are the things that renters break. Cruise America also does not offer Class A motorhomes, El Monte does. I don't know what CW does with its former rental motorhomes.

True. And I know that the question is about buying from a large rental company, where ours was a rental from a dealer in NH...but ours has a slide and did have awnings on both sides added after rental service. There was no ladder, though, so we asked for (and got) one as part of the sale from the dealer. Just noting that add on stuff can be negotiated as part of the deal...not sure if the big guys will play ball like an independent dealer, but it is worth a try if something is important to you.
