Sure, they still make them but many MH's are soley used at CG's with full hookups so resi fridges are becoming common. But there are still many (most?) that come with a 2 way fridge.

I inspected a Travel Supreme last year that was all electric - no propane aboard. Hydro hot diesel burner for heat and hot water, electric cook top and oven, 12.5 kW Onan and 8 - CG2s with 2 - 2000 watt inverters. No boondocking in that bus.

A reasonable alternative is the new Dometic compressor fridge that runs on 120 VAC and 12 VDC. We got one into the store and hooked it up to a fully charge group 24 battery. It ran for 40 hours until it kicked out on low voltage (<11.7 I think is where it cuts out).

paulm, can you order it with a 2-way or is that not an option from the manufacturer? I think with the vast majority used in campgrounds that's why they are coming with residential fridge, as well as the ongoing issues with the 2-way fridge that are common. I believe you can overcome the power issue with a larger battery bank and solar.

It is one that we are looking at. 2010 Monaco Dynasty 45 foot.

That is a ridiculous statement. Why can't you boondock in that coach? It has everything needed to do so

except peace and quiet. I don't like listening to a 12.5 kW generator all day. And I'm sure my neighbors wouldn't either.

How long can that battery pack withstand the average camper's drain on them?

We dog show and at many venues there is no power. We have a Samsung RR and can easily go all night without running the generator. Boondocking really isn't a problem.

We have a residential refrigerator and we boondock quite often. Our unit has a 2KW inverter that runs all the outlets in the coach. The only thing that won't run are the ACs, hot electric part of the hot water heater (gas works) and the engine block heater. We are a family of 5 so our electric usage is high. The kids have devices and so do my wife and I
We only have 4 GC2 6v batteries. We can last a day. We added 540 watts of solar so now we are golden. Almost all modern DPs have inverter generators. My generator is very quiet. Also diesel generators only run at 1800 RPM. That means they are much quieter than the gasoline generators that run at 3600. Bottom line just because a coach has a residential refrigerator doesn't mean you can't boondock. Residential refrigerators are quite efficient vastly more efficient than the propane absorption refrigerators are.

thanks for the info. I know about the quite gensets. Had a Monaco signature and we boondocked a lot.
so I guess with the all-electric coaches there would be an auto start on the gen set if batteries get to low. Correct?
