My first class C I bought used, a 29' Gulfstream that was going on 8 years old, that was in generally OK shape, but still needed about $5k worth of stuff (tires, replacement generator, and A/C shroud come immediately to mind). After 2 1/2 years of this, and wating for something -really- expensive to break, I was able to sell it for waht I paid for it 3 seasons before. Of course, less the repair and replacement costs.
For RV v2.0, after considering another used one, I deceided to start looking for exactly what I wanted, figuring that I was going to keep it for a 10-12 year timeframe which would put it at around the age of my first unit when I sent it down the road. Doing the math on depreciation and upkeep, if I bought one new for $55k +/-, owned it for 12 years, and was able to sell it for $18k - $20k, that $3,000 a year of depreciation was more than worth it for piece of mind and warranty.
If I bought used, I'd probably be flipping RV's at least once if not twice in that timeframe.
