"C" storage safety

My Freelander has ample storage but the construction concerns me.
It has some type of plastic bottoms in 6 different places.
I just loaded them up and later thought it would be nice to know what their weight limit was.
Does this concern anyone else with this type storage?
  • No steel bottom and since they aren't loaded heave I shall not worry.

PS, I'm well under the GVWR and the GCWR.
  • Pretty sure my Fleetwood doesn't have a steel bottom - it's a 92 and has held up just fine. One bin holds fire wood the other holds a boatload of small **** which likely weights a bunch. I wouldn't sweat it.
  • My Forest River Sunseeker has similar Nylocast compartments. No steel. For some added strength and to distribute point loads better I cut 1/4 luan and laid those in on the bottom of the storage areas. Six years later, the original luan is still there and no issues, with the one 4x8 sheet I used weighing maybe 20-25 lbs tops. All the storage is packed pretty full too.
  • Look under them if you can. X2 that they probably have steel underneath.
  • I think in many cases the plastic bottoms are just liners inside a steel compartment. I believe with a Freelander your bigger concern would be the amount of weight you're adding to the MH, regardless of where it's placed. It wouldn't take much to exceed the GVWR.
