CA to AZ via Nevada

Hello, we will be traveling to Tucson AZ and since we live in the Sierra Nevada's would like to go through Nevada down 95 to AZ. My concern is Highway 89 in CA through Markleeville and particularly through Loope to 395. (Lake Topaz area) Is this do-able in an RV? That area looks difficult. They do not clear the roads in winter and I wonder about the condition of the road as well as it being driveable in a large vehicle. We have a 34 foot class A and will be towing a small car. The google map shows this road in yellow (as apposed to the white roads) does that mean it's a bigger Highway? Thanks for any input.

    Monitor Pass isn't a big deal at 8,314 feet. Carson is a little higher at 8,600 and Ebbets at 8,700. Now Sonora at 9,600 and Tioga at 9,900...those are fun!

    Hey you two, please quit arguing about the little dude, your clogging up my answer line. The response was to me and I knew exactly what he meant. I viewed with the little dude and that is what gave me concern so I decide to reach out to some forums to see if anyone had driven it. I need to see what this "atlas" is and what it says. Thank you everyone for the input, I would still like to hear more if anyone has driven it.

    I drove the section of Highway 89 through Markleeville years ago in a car and I would not do it in a motorhome. Not saying it can't be done but it is quite steep. It's Monitor Pass and the Mountain directory says there is over 8 miles of 8% grade on the east side and 7.5 miles of 7-10% on the west side with 25-40 mph curves.

    Yes! Good road and scenic....my favorites! Don't know why a small driving challenge is such a burden to some RVers.

    I keep a Carrier's Atlas handy - if it's OK for an 18 wheeler it's OK for me.
