Cable TV with matrix box

Matrix is electronic switch that controls two dvr's, DVD, aux. Allows you to route all these devices to any Tv. So you can access either of the dvr's in lounge bedroom our outside. Over the air is direct from the antenna and booster. The booster is in the same old separate spot. My over the air works well but I can't get cable Not real important as I really like satellite but I like to understand how everything works. If it works. It seems like I need to switch something to get cable. I select it on tv and run the scans on auto. I am confused about what standard, HRC and IRC mean.
