Cabover window covering

We need to replace the tired curtain on the cabover window of our 2000 class C. I'd like it to be light blocking to keep the sun from waking my son at 5:30 in the morning. A custom day night shade is over $100 plus shipping. Any alternative ideas?

  • Thanks for all the ideas! Still not sure what we're going to do.
  • We just put (sewed) a heavier piece of fabric to the back of the existing curtain - made a significant difference.
  • We have light blocking curtains, tracked top and bottom. A RV dealer may have the parts in an accessory catalog, even if Coachmen didn't use this type of curtain.
  • A truck/jumbo sized windshield sun shade fits perfectly behind the curtains in in the cab over. The curtain rod holds it up and in place no need to tape it in place.

Drops the temps in the cab over dramatically.
It's the thickness of these that really helps keep the heat out along with reflecting it. About 200 times better than the limo tint.

14.00 Walmart and if you want to be creative they have dozens of different colored and pictured ones as well as the diamond plate silver.

I have the one with palm trees! :C
  • I put a very dark window tint from an auto parts shop on the front and side glass in the cab over. And in hot or cooler weather I use some garage door insulation I picked up at home depot cut to fit with velcro spots to hold it up. With the curtins closed you never see it and it makes a big difference.

I've put the AL tape on the outside and foam insulation on the inside, With the curtain closed you don't see the insulation.

  • I used a piece of reflectix that fits between the window and the cloth curtain. The curtain holds it in place. It keeps light and heat outside but it is awkward to remove if you want to see out of the window. Not an issue for us.
