Calling all Newell owners!

We have been looking at building a new coach. I have read just about everything there is and checked many websites, etc. (reading since June).

The Prevost conversions are beautiful coaches. The three main converters are Marathon, Millennium and Liberty Coach. All are a little different with different amenities.

We are also considering building a new Newell. I would like to know if there are any Newell owners out there who could share their experience.

The pluses of a Newell..
-exterior window awnings.
-option of a mid coach entry door.
-window in the bathroom.
-600 hp Cummins with 1,950 lb. ft. of torque.
-no risk of overweight of any axle with four slides.
-hinged cargo doors (easy to open, more difficult to close but take up less space in tight quarters).
-not totally dependent on Crestron system (Ipad).

The pluses of a Prevost...
-solid production chassis.
-choice of Valid or Prevost slides.
-no entry step (door at low level).

The Newell is about $900,000 cheaper MSRP on a totally loaded coach ($2.6 vs. $1.7).

The Newell has a steerable tag vs. Prevost load release tag.
Not that it makes much difference, but the Newell has a full windshield whereas the Prevost has two separate pieces with a bar in the middle. The Newell has an air operated entry door vs. the hinged Prevost entry door.

The Prevost has a 500 hp Volvo with 1,750 lb. ft of torque vs. the Cummins with 600 hp and 1,950 lb. ft. of torque on the Newell.

Both have large side roof awnings available for both sides.

MM.

The tone of the post leads me to think you are leaning toward the Newell. Hard to imagine that it could possibly turn out to be a bad decision. I cannot fathom how one would justify that the Prevost is $900k better than the Newell. Does that 50%+ premium get you that level of value in return? I'd suggest not.

I would agree (not that I have experience with such things) but it seems to me that at this level of coach you spend more on a greater depreciation hit. To me, the casual observer, the Newell seems a bit more "modern" with respect to styling. Prevosts look a little dated but that's just my opinion. You all see what I am driving and I love it, so I can't fathom that kind of budget. Can't imagine you'd be dissapointed with either. Hmm, Ferrari, Porsche, Bentley... the choices are so hard to make. I can understand your dillema. :)

  • Does the Volvo come with the ishift ?
All things equal (and they are not considering the $ involved ) transmission choice would sway me to the Prevost.
Automated manuals are far more efficient - if that matters much at these stratospheric prices :-)
