It's the other way around. Gas gums up if it sets.
Gas is not the way to go on anything. No power, poor fuel mileage, even diesel generator better than gas. Diesel will go 400,000 miles or more gas lucky to go 100,000 without major issues. I know of one that did not go 50,000 without breaking crankshaft from low RPM operation!
