Smitty, sorry for the confusion. I researched this some more,If our tanks are aluminum, which they probably are, I have read that they do not require an anode. I will look at my tank to verify.
I also plan to check my water heaters at home
Just as a FYI, its a sacrificial anode that corrodes, not your tank or piping. see the below links for more info.
