+1 for FQRV resort ! We don't go during prime time or special events and while i agree its expensive, i don't think you can beat it....no way could you stay in a hotel that close to the quarter for anything near that price.
The place is SAFE, CLEAN & everyone is very nice & friendly - we've stayed here twice & we'll stay there again.
Its nice that the folks at FQRV Resort will take you a few blocks (to the visitors center / police station) via golf cart so you can safely walk the 3 blocks to the quarter or the french market / water front....when you're done, just call them and they come pick you up. Cabs to Bourbon Street & the French Market are less than 10 bucks, so even when you don't want to walk its less hassle than parking.
