Camping Clubs

I am posting this here because I don't know where else to post it.

Anyone here ever join a "camping club"? Back when I was a kid and we seasonal camp, I remember clubs coming in. It was a group of campers that tend to meet up at different campgrounds for weekends/weeks throughout the summer.

None of our friends camp so my wife has expressed interest in joining a club so we can meet other campers and perhaps have a fun network of people the camp with.

What clubs are out there? What is the good, bad and ugly about them?
