You will find you need to make reservations when the window opens for them or you won't find any larger spots available. I wish the NPS would change their reservation policy to free up the larger spots for folks with the larger rigs. If you travel to any of the campgrounds you will find folks with smaller rigs in the large spots, and the small spots unoccupied. If you reserve to small of a spot the NPS will turn you away, but yet they allow folks in smaller rigs to camp out in larger spots. The policy should work both ways. We usually avoid the busy season for this reason. We wanted to go visit Yellowstone this year but the larger spots in Fishing Bridge are taken, so we will try again next year. Our backup plan will be Grizzly in town, but we would rather stay in park with FHU as we want to stay for a week or two and dumping is a hassle when you stay that long.
