Can make unscrewing black tank cap easier?

Hi. We have a Sunseeker 3170, although I doubt my question is brand specific. It's getting harder for me to unscrew the cap on the black water tank. Is there anything I can spray or smear on the plastic that will make it easier but not make the cap so loose that it'll come off on its own (yuck!).
Thanks!

  • Ended up ordering a cap with a handle. Hopeful the leverage will make it easier. Thanks again.

Be sure there isn't a rubber gasket in the lid before using Vaseline. Petroleum products like that degrade rubber and make it leak like a sieve later.
  • I use silicon grease.
Go to Oreilly Auto, only 3 bucks..
I am sure it will work.

  • Thanks. Will try some of those ideas. Realized too late that I said black tank. Should have said dump tank or sewer tank. Sorry about that.
    Regardless, appreciate the ideas.
  • Marine grade grease, just a little will work for a long time.
  • You can use a strap wrench:

Most stores that sell tools will have them in stock. Prices range from $5.00 to $40.00.
  • We use a replacement cap that has a built in handle making it much easier to get on/off. Check any Rv supply. well worth it...prob less than $10.
  • Have you tried silicone spray? I use it on the valve stems when they are in the 'out' position to keep them from sticking.
