can not start generator

I have a 2004 holiday rambler endeavor with a Onan 7500 diesel geni. It shut down going down the road today. Found I had some bad house batteries. Replaced all four and generator still won't start. It seems there is now power to the switch on the dash or the one on the geni itself. Press either button nothing happens. Checked all the fuses that are inside the little access door on the front of the generator(the one where the radiator cap is) all three fuses are good and getting 13.8 volts to all of them. Any ideas?
  • Bad batteries shouldn't make the Generator shutdown when it is running, with no power to the switches, I assume you tested these with a voltmeter? Would indicate a fuse problem somewhere, or a burnt wire or transfer switch. Did you smell anything like burnt wiring? My Onan 7.5KW also quit like that, burnt wire on the transfer switch. My transfer switch was located in the electronics box under the fridge, wire was burnt in two, and transfer switch was toast.
Also on the left side of the Generator as you are looking at it, there is an inspection door, held on by two 10mm bolts, gen off, unplugged from shore power, take that inspection plate off and look at the terminal located below, mine was completely covered with corrosion I replaced the terminal block and renewed the connections and all my problems went away.

  • Pretty much every time someone tells us they replaced the batteries and now it won't work, it turns out the batteries are connected wrong.
  • Mine died on me when it was running, and ended up being the fuel pump.

Go to the switch outside on the Generator and push down on the bottom of the start switch and hold it there. You should here a clicking noise that is your fuel pump priming. If it is clicking then hold it down for 2 minutes and then try to start. You may have to try this a few times.

If there's no clicking noise odds are that your fuel pump is shot and needs to be replaced.
