Can toll booths read transponder w/C overhang?

I don't think we owned a toll-paying transponder with our previous Class C. Now that we're back in one (and loving it!), a question popped into my head: Can the readers "see" or communicate with the transponder in its "proper" location next to the rear-view mirror?

I realize that many toll booths also offer toll-by-plate, but keeping track of that is a PITA.

  • Ours is on the far center part of the dashboard and also registered on pay by plate and we haven't had a problem.
  • We have our EZ Pass stuck on the windshield behind the rearview mirror and haven't had any problems.
  • There is a narrow area from which the scanner can "see" your transponder.

Originally, we placed ours a bit too high on the windshield and it scanned/worked about 75% of the time. A Toll Booth employee suggested we move our unit a two inches lower, no problems since.

Once you find the sweet spot, you should be good to go.
