Can U Flat tow 2006-2008 Toyota Tacoma 4x4?

I am looking to start building another project. I am thinking about a 2006-2008 Toyota Tacoma 4x4. I would hope to flat tow it. Does anybody know if it can be flat towed?

I realize the first response will be to read the manual. I am only shopping for the truck at this point, so I don't have a manual to read!

Thanks for your input.
  • So far my 04 manual 4x4 Tacoma is doing well. Toyota isn't gonna say it's ok. I'm able to put the transfer case into neutral . Not sure if the newer ones have a similar arrangement.

The Corolla and Yaris with manual transmissions are both flat towable, with no speed or distance restrictions. The only requirement is to idle the engine for three minutes before driving. I have been towing a 2010 Corolla five speed manual for six years with no problems.

  • The Auto trans tows very well with a driveshaft disconnect. We towed a 2005 and it was great. No Toyota product has anything in the manual that approves towing. I think Nissan , most Mazdas and Subarus are the same.

  • In general if the transfer case has a neutral position then you can flat tow it.
  • According to REMCO, the 2006-2008 automatic or manual transmission needs either a lube pump or a drive shaft disconnect.
  • The 2008 FMCA Towing Guide does not list one. Don't know about the earlier years.
Remco might be a good starting point.
