I bought our current coach from the U.S as a used vehicle in 2010. I negotiated a selling price with a private seller in Virginia. I hired a local motorhome broker to fly down and look at the vehicle and inspect it's condition. He confirmed it was in great condition (only 1 yr. old at the time). I then hired a lawyer in Virginia to handle the money transaction as the seller still owed money on the loan that was carried by a bank in another state. I had a client of mine exchange the money for me at better than bank rates because that's what he does. Then my broker flew back down and took delivery of the coach and drove it from Virginia to Vancouver B.C. (2800 miles). He handled the importation into Canada and also the safety and propane inspection required to allow me to register and license the coach in British Columbia.
I paid the broker a flat fee of $5000 Cdn. for all his work and expenses incl. fuel. I paid the lawyer in Va. approx $800 Use. for his part. I paid $150K Usd. to the buyer and by the time all expenses were paid it cost me $192K Cdn. incl. taxes, sorry but I don't remember what the exchange rate was at the time. The best price I could get for a Newmar Ventana 3942 from a local dealer was $270K cdn. It went very smoothly for me I believe because I hired professionals people who knew what to do.
