QUOTE: Despite what some people think, a US plated vehicle in Canada is no problem, I’ve had one for years, no issue, there are however some restrictions.
I really seriously call BS on this deal ;There is no way in this world as a Canadian citizen you can bring in a US plated registered Vehicle and leave as such in Canada no way no how
You can call it anything you like, but arguing without knowing the facts is the only BS. You need to open your eyes and mind, it happens all the time.
You cannot (legally) have a US plated, Florida in my case and lots of my neighbours around Muskoka, as a daily driver, but you can most certainly drive it home, park it there as long as you like, then drive it back to the border. It’s both very common and 100% legal.
Although I don’t push my luck, lots of people I know up here do indeed drive their FL plated vehicles daily. It’s one of those deals where the only people who care are CBSA, and they don’t patrol the interior of the country, the local and Provincial LEO’s could care less as long as the plates and insurance are current.
Although I didn’t take the time looking for an ‘official’ citation for it, I’m getting weary of arguing with the strong minded but Illl-informed of the world, here’s a quote from the CBSA from a story in the Globe & Mail;
“Certain conditions must be met for the temporary importation of a non-Canadian vehicle by a Canadian resident: only for the purpose of transporting the resident's household or personal effects into or out of Canada, or for personal transportation as a result of an emergency or unforeseen contingency. In either case, the vehicle cannot be used within Canada for leisure, personal or commercial use.”
