Car Fax for Class A

Hi all,

I have heard from somewhere you can get a car fax for a motorhome. Has anyone done this and if yes did you get any useful information? Would you recommend it?

Thanks,

Stuart

  • As others have said: CarFax is only as good as the reporting agencies that supply information back to it.

I bought my current 2000 Class A a couple of years ago at a wholesale auction. It was a Bank of America repo and you don't get any history or know anything about them other than what you see at the auction.

The CarFax showed only the DMV Registrations and Inspection records, however it did tell me where the motorhome had been mostly located since new. It was several towns in west Texas and eastern New Mexico. That info was one of the deciding factors in my interest in the unit since I knew it was not from a coastal area or far northern area which could have been prone to flooding or salty roads.

    Just my 2 cents worth.....

I have a good friend who is a Director at CarFax so let me know if you have any questions you need answered about the process. They are always looking for feedback on their data and expanding more into the RV market.

  • I did the carfax on my motorhome and found the history where the PO had refinanced it several times to use the money for chemo treatments for his wife...
  • Also to add another fact about Carfax is some used dealers buy cars with some damage but have contracts with certain low cost body shops that do the repair and leave that info out of the system, happens a lot..

The Canadian Broadcasting System did an investigative report about CarFax.

Carfax are only accurate if all the service repair people and body shop people enter the vin into the system, many do not and sometimes its the wrong vin, usually by typo error, I bought a used truck a few years back and on carfax it showed the mileage jump over 100,000 miles in 1 year but than went back down the next year, typo error for sure..
  • I paid for one. Somewhat useful for me considering the coach was a repo. Only info it showed was DMV records. The report might show a pattern of heavy resale which could indicate a problem coach.
