You can use Cat filters if you wish, but you will pay a lot more because it has the Cat. Name, but in the real world there are many filter companies that make the same filter with their name brand for a lot less money. I use the napa filters and they have serve me well through 57k miles. I change the oil and filter once a year, which is about every 5k miles average.
