Just a little more information:
The manual primer pump was deleted by a few chassis makers (likely their bean counters) to save a few bucks).
One other critical issue when you don't have a manual pump is that the level of the fuel in the fuel tank needs to be at or above that of the primary fuel filter when you change it. If not, the fuel will siphon those 25+ feet of fuel line back to the tank when you remove the primary filter. And that 25+ feet of air is VERY hard to prime up. So, fuel tank full/park with nose up. Better a little fuel coming out when you remove the primary filter(that you catch) than an engine no-start issue. BTW, same issue for all brand engines, not just Caterpillar. Most fuel pumps are not designed to pump that much air.
