A couple of years ago, an off-duty deputy sheriff caught a fellow crawling out from under my coach in a Home Depot parking lot with a saws-all in hand. When the on-duty cops showed up, they searched the fellow's truck and found 11 cut cats in the back. The deputy said he looked under my coach, but couldn't see where any damage had been done. I just chuckled and said, "Good thing, because there's no cat on this rig to steal, and never has been!" The deputy laughed and said the number of stolen cats in the guy's truck easily brought the charges up to felony level, so he won't be back looking for more any time soon. I was just glad the guy wasn't so stupid that he cut off the resonator instead!

davebrown if you go to any shop and tell them you have an insurance job the quote will be higher than if you told them your paying with cash. most shops will give an insurance quote of ie. ($2000) to replace X item. Then the shop says he'll do it for 1500 what is the problem. You going back to your insurance company and letting them know that you own them 500 because the shop decided to take less for the job. I DONT THINK SO.

New Jersey "inspections" have been cut down to ONLY emissions. Either their ODB reader or a "sniffer" up the tailpipe. They DO use a mirror to make sure all the exhaust components are there....No "cat"...no pass.

As mentioned in previous posts, there are ways to get around no cat converter...as far as the motorhome computer is concerned. But...will it pass the emission test? Even if it does, the physical appearance (empty shell) of a converter must be there.

Depending on computer engine management you may have two o2 sensors or just one on each side. The setup with 2 has one before an after the cat.

With the one before and none after the motor will run fine without it.

It is illegal to remove emission equipment.

CAFÉ Standards. The U.S. Congress first established fuel economy standards for new passenger vehicles in 1975 as part of the Energy Policy and Conservation Act of 1975. These standards are known as the corporate average fuel economy standards (CAFÉ). The CAFÉ standards are the sales-weighted average fuel economy, expressed in miles per gallon, of a manufacturer's fleet of passenger cars and light duty trucks (vans, minivans, sport utility vehicles, and trucks) with gross vehicle weight ratings (GVWR) of 8,500 pounds or less, manufactured in the United States, for any given model year.

Vehicles that have GVWRs above 8,500 are not subject to the CAFÉ standards, so certain heavy vans, sport utility vehicles, and pickup trucks are not required to be tested for fuel economy or included in the CAFÉ standards. They are considered heavy-duty vehicles under federal law. Passenger car standards began with the 1978 model year. Light truck standards started in the 1979 model year for vehicles up to 6,000 pounds GVWR and in the 1980 model year for light trucks through 8,500 pounds GVWR.

Check to see if your state had more stringent standards or inspections.
Some do some don't.

is not scewing with the price quote to insurance company so as to absorb the 500$ deductible not the same as stealing and which is also illegal

On my street rod I had o2 simulators they screw into the bung and plug into the harness which tricks the computer in thinking that all is good. 1. it is illegal to remove and I would get an estimate with labor and most places will minus your deductible so there is no out of pocket expensive for you. Just talk to the shop.

Or do as I would and worry about that if and when there comes a time
where its a requirement
