Chains on rear of class C

Anything I need to know about putting chains on my class C? We have a mandatory "snow tire or carry chains" law on our highways effective October 1st and I want to continue to use our new to us Coachmen 21QB. Will a set of regular chains on just the outer wheels work or do I need special ones for the dual wheels?
  • You should be OK with a single set, but check with DMV for your state.
  • We too must carry chains. Normal chains work fine. (Not cable ect.) We have had to use them a few times. And out side works fine too. Easier to chain up. But inside is OK just a pain to install.

Ouside duel only. Make sure you check for clearances.
    BC Chain Placement

That's not what it says in the pdf that you've linked. It says: "Single axles must be chained. (All four wheels with chains)".
  • I missed the note in the legend. Yes, both tires of duels must be chained on RVs

Is it worth noting that the (very helpful) link identifies these as "suggestions" rather than requirements-of-B.C.-law?
  • Outside dual usually. Run the inner dual up on some kind of block to give you clearance on the outer dual. Check your manual for type of chain required. For instance, my 2003 Ford requires type S chain which is thinner than normal chain. Not much clearance between duals. Here is a link for all laws in all states.
