Change your oil- yourself or shop

I've always change the RV oil. It's easier than the car, and I'm not interested in spending $25 in fuel to get a $300 oil change

I've always changed my own oil and filter. While under the coach I grease the chassis as well. Simple job.

Do my own also. So high up it's easier to slide under without having to jack the thing up. Also I feel good that I know all the grease fittings got lubed...

Other than mounting tires on a rim and twice for warranty work, I've never had anyone work on my car, truck, boat, RV or backhoe my entire life.

If new, and under warranty, take it to a truck center to make sure everything is cool, no recalls, etc.

I also do my own service. I installed the fumoto valve and can drain the oil without spilling any. While doing the oil I lube the fittings and look for anything else that may need attention.

I do most of the work on the Sahara, but I let the shop change the fluids. This is mostly because I don't have a convenient place to dispose of the oil. I could take it to the dump, but our dump takes in demolition, and I get a flat tire just driving in there.

I know, I know, the place that sells you the fresh oil is supposed to take the used oil back. I can tell you that this is something that they are forced to do by well intentioned laws and they go out of there way to make you feel like an a$$ when you do it.

I have a really good engine guy at the local RV shop who likes to get in there and really check things over. Also, I have a CAT shop about an hour away.

I usually change the Landau's oil at our Adirondack cottage. The old oil goes to a friend that has a waste oil furnace in his machine shop.

I use to change my own in my car, but my truck I take to a local shop. His shop is way to small to handle a motorhome.

I used to do a lot of the preventive maintenance on my vehicles but not so much anymore. we store our MH at a lot at the garage that does all of our maintenance and repairs on the MH. they have a key to the MH. I let them know what I want done, they move it into a bay, perform the work, return it to my parking spot and e-mail the bill to me.

Myself, always. I get to pick the filter. I get to pick the oil. I get to know the job is done right. I'm not saying shops are BAD, but oil is so crucial to a vehicle that I just assume do it myself.
