Marv.....Note the response, everyone who loves State Farm DOES NOT live in California. Like others, my parents were with State Farm and that's who I went with. I had them for 20 years until the 1990's. In the 90's they no longer wanted to do auto policies in California and their rates went through the roof (no claims, great credit). I asked my agent when the increases were going to stop. He told me there wouldn't be anymore increases. The next billing cycle they went up again. I dropped State Farm after 20 plus years and didn't even get so much as a courtesy call from my agent of 10 years.
In California, I found that Farmers was one of the best companies, but considered my home to be in a fire area (no other company did). I always keep my cars and home with the same company, so Farmers was out.
I eventually went with AAA (a non-profit company) and they insured everything except our diesel pusher we bought a few years later. I insured the DP with Progressive who was good for a few years and then about two years ago they went through the roof in many places around the country.
I checked with AAA and they were now insuring DP's. I now have everything with AAA and have great service!
State Farm was a good company, but in the 90's decided to get out of the car business in California. They did it by raising rates. I'll NEVER give them my business again. A few years later they realized that they had made a mistake and you saw a push in TV ads to start insuring Californians again. Too late.
A good friend once told me....the insurance companies could care less about you, so never feel bad about routinely shopping for new insurance. I now check every few years and go with the best price. So far AAA in Southern California is the cheapest for us.
