Chevrolet 4500 Chassis

Hi-- any one have a Class c with the Chevrolet 4500 Chassis?
Wondering how it is?
Repairs, gas, etc?
The one we are looking at is 2014 Class c 22E about 24ft
and thanks in advance for any advise
Regards
  • Our class C on Chevy 4500 is great. Better gas mileage than similar Ford. Excellent handling. Better legroom for driver and especially passenger. In 2 1/2 years and 16,000 miles I have done nothing except change oil at end of each camping season.

The Chevy Van is a good truck and the powertrain needs no introduction anywhere in the world. GM hasn't shown the dedication to Class C market that Ford has, but I wouldn't worry about parts and service. 6.0 GM V8 seems to get a little better mileage than 6.8 Ford V10. There have been a couple OP's here who think their 4500's are too bouncy. May be because they're under a small coach, because they are new, or because expectations are too high. We have a group who believe Fords ride like boxcars and Chevys ride like limousines. Neither extreme is true. Both are high priced rental trucks.
  • Our local EMS has gone to the 4500 Chevy in their ambulances. They did this about 4 years ago when Ford quit offering their diesel in the E series, (new one won't fit).
So far according to the director, they've been having less repair visits overall than with the Fords. Now we're talking about the Duramax engine equipped chassis vs the 6.0, although the 6.0 is probably the least problematic V8 gas engine out there in the gas commercial truck arena
  • Howdy!

I don't know about the Class C but I had a 5500 MDT we used to tow our 5er. It was a good TV could have used more power. We traded it off after GM stopped making the MDT line and and began to have problems finding parts and dealers to work on them.
