Claas A/ Class C

I too have owned both a C and an A and I found the type wasn't nearly as important as the setup and amenities.

Our class C was a 1979 Fleetwood Jamboree (24'?) with an over-cab queen bed and 2 bunk beds, perfect for travelling with our then-small children. And DH and I were younger and climbing up and down to/from the bed wasn't a problem. Neither was pulling the steps out and in.

Our class A was a 1992 Fleetwood Flair (diesel) (34'). Rear queen bed, convertible dinette and sofa, real closet, microwave. Great for us, no climbing, and if a (now grown) kid wanted to come along, they could deal with making/unmaking a bed.

We are in the process of buying a motorhome, and my physical limitations have made shopping even more ... interesting. ;) We happened to find the combination of features I required in a Class A, but I would have gone for a Class C if it had had the right features. An A is simply what was available locally at a price we could afford.

Just returned from a 4 day trip up to the Rainbow campground {9,230'} at Big Lake in the White Mountains and discovered another reason that we love our C.... The Monsoon is ripping through Arizona with the mountains getting spectacular thunderstorms on an almost daily basis, this was just another reason we love going up.

Around three every day the clouds would stack up, darken and shortly thereafter the lightning and torrential rains would begin. To pass the time until they subsided, usually around sunset, we would make three O'clock our happy hour.

While our cab seats do not swivel we discovered they make a very nice cocktail lounge. The cabover keeps the rain off of the windshield and side windows for an unobstructed view, the seats recline nicely and our Bluetooth speaker provides the tunes straight from the i - phone.

The Itasca Navion iQ isn't really a C is it? Isn't it a B+ on a sprinter chassis. Winnie may call it a C, but I thought anything on the Sprinter is considered a B+.

In addition to all the C makers building on Sprinter chassis for years (as outlined above), Winnebago has been selling the Via, a Sprinter small Class A, for at least five years now.

Actually, not all Class Cs have a cab-over extension for a bed. My 25.5 foot IQ model, the Itasca Navion 24G built by Winnebago, does not, and instead has a large skylight. Take a look at Leisure Travel Serenity or Unity. Some of the Coachmen Prism models. Some of the Coach House Platinum models. Several other brands. Other models of Sprinter Cs do have a sort of bulbous cab-over extension for a bed or entertainment center.

Yes, these are class C Sprinters. (Not "B+"). All are built on a Sprinter chassis delivered by Mercedes to the manufacturer as an engine and chassis (but not as a van). The manufacturer such as Winnebago builds the square house onto the chassis behind the cab.

A Class B Sprinter, on the other hand, is delivered by Mercedes to a van converter as a steel van. (We had one for five years.) The converter fits beds, cabinetry, plumbing, electrical, holding tanks, generators, and sometimes even little slide-outs into the insides of the van - strictly conforming to Mercedes-approved plans.

B+ is a marketing term for a small class C.

While this may be true for larger higher end A's, it's really not accurate on most of the newer, smaller class A. As stated before a lot of the new Class A's have drop down bunks, as well as sofa and dinette bed conversions and there are a lot of bunk bed plans. The newer, smaller A's are really geared toward bridging the gap between C's and A's and offer full family camping options. I've seen many floorplans on 30-34' A's that can sleep up to 8. Most can sleep 4-6. As an example mine can sleep 6 comfortably. (queen bed, queen drop down bunk, twin jackknife and twin dinette)

This is us except for the 'wife won't drive it' thing. Both of us took turns driving it. Women drive school buses. :)

After having both types, a Class A would be our choice.

I've owned both Class A & C RV. I prefer a Class A RV over a Class C RV due to you sit higher in a Class A, therefore you have better vision. Also, a Class A turns easier than a Class C. And you have more storage capacity, including water, black and gray tanks. The only thing I have against Class A is my wife refuses to drive it, she says it's too big too drive. Good Luck

Well we moved from a 40' two slides diesel pusher to a 31' C one slide. We spend from 120 to about 240 days out a year with at least three month together. Don't see much difference in driving either although the diesel has more systems to monitor going down the road. Had and do have a toad with both and the ford V10 does as well as most diesel A's. Have friends with a 30' A newer and they tow also we seem to be able to go the same places without much trouble if any. We camp/boondock in all kinds of weather and don't heat or cool the cab area now but even in the diesel never wanted for more heat or cooling. I really can't think of a thing that one or the other in the 30' range can't do. Sit in a few of each for a 1/2 hour and think about being on the road and get the floor plan that suits. Depending on brand some have better storage both in and under each not A or C. If I were to purchase new I would get either A or C with two slides rear bed and the best floor plan that Suited MY wants.
And as to the crash thing "nuff" said if you hit that hard in either your in deep poo, don't need the argument in this thread. JMO
