Dennis's point is that there is more to this than just the MH although his average is actually 22 MPG. We usually put as many miles on our car as the MH and I recently bought a car that gets 44 plus the 7 for the MH divided by 2 = 25.5 average.
I can get 10 mpg with my heavy DP (44k lbs) but 45 MPH is too slow for most roads. A MPG without the speed you drive and to a lesser degree your weight is meaningless. My 7 is at 65-67. From the many posts over the years on MPG I'd say a 5.9 Cummins will average 10 mpg at 60 mph.
The average of two ratios is not generally the mean of their values. If you drive 50 miles at 50 mph and 50 miles at 10 mph, your average speed is not 25 mph, but 16.6 mph (100 miles / 6 hours). In your case, with equal distances at 44 mpg and 7 mpg, your average fuel milage is about 12.1 mpg.
