Yes, RV's have alot of exemptions and each state DMV has their own additions to the US DOT too.
.. than RV trailers above 10,000 lb are exempt.
RV are exempt from lot of common laws, so if in doubt- call your local DMV - BumpyroadExplorerthe paper has an article about a proposal to mandate US speed limits on heavier vehicles, over 26,000 lbs. various numbers up to 68 mph.
bumpy - sch911ExplorerExcept for a few states NO you don't need anything special in the way of licences. You definitely don't need a CDL anywhere since you are non-comercial. And you only need to meet the requirements of your home country/state, period.
- jrclarkExplorerYour regular Iowa driver's license is all that you need for a class A motorhome of any weight or length.

You can't pull two trailers behind a Class A motorhome in California. The first trailer has to be a 5th wheel. - the_silverbackExplorerBeen RVing since 1973. I know a lot of people won't like this, but I feel all class A MH's drivers should have a special license. They are not a car!!!

That was the law in California. I've heard it's been changed to drop the 5th wheel requirement. The second trailer used to have to be a boat, some years ago, but that was changed too.SoCalDesertRider wrote:
