I have owned motorhomes for quite a few years, currently I own 2 that I also rent out.
Class C is the best for families. The cabover is great for storage, and teenagers don't mind having to move stuff around to sleep.
Tires, parts and service is easier and cheaper with a C.
Now, if you plan to do everything yourself, a class A is MUCH EASIER to work on.
As far as size, the layout has to have a separate bedroom. A 23" with no walls will be too small for a couple with 3 teenagers. Sometimes those thin walls can give you a needed reprive.
I would go for a Ford. Most common chassis. 80% of class Cs and 60% of class As, plus 80% of small truck and vans.
The sprinter is a great chassis, but parts are not only expensive, they are difficult to find.
GM is not too common.
Hope it helps and see you down the road!
