I have a 30 1/2 gasser with the Ford V10. The engine and the drive train would allow me to tow almost 10000 lbs (according to the GCWR). I have a 5000lbs hitch on it, but I reinforced this hitch and the hitch attachment points (I feel it is good for about 7000 lbs. The motorhome can pull this weight with ease, but for the stopping reasons mentioned before, I would not pull anything over 200 lbs without auxiliary brakes. Many states require these brakes for anything heavier than 2000 - 3000 lbs..
You should check with your state requirements!
Where did you get the GCWR rating for your coach that stated it had a 10,000 lb towing capacity? While I don't have the specs for your particular coach, I can tell you that Ford for 2014 does not show any of their chassis with an available towing capacity over 7000 lbs. The specifications for their chassis run from as little as 4000 lbs to a maximum of 7000 lbs. To get to those numbers, I believe that Ford has increased their capacity over the past few model years. They are also increasing that capacity further for 2015 I believe. In looking at your profile I believe that you are driving a 2001 year model coach?
Also, I would caution anyone from "reinforcing" a rated hitch and believing that they have somehow increased its capacity. The hitch has a rating plate and the capacity shown is its capacity. Sure would hate to see someone have an accident with a modified hitch exceeding its capacity possibly hurting or killing someone.
Safe travels.
