class b+ entertainment center removal - update done

B+ usually has cabinets because thats's all the space there is up there. Most I've seen would be hard pressed to fit a sort, cot-width sleeping area in that space. If you want bunks up there, look for a C with bunk-size section over the cab.

If all you want is storage, you can get as much space as the OEM cabinets used, which for some models is a lot, others not so much.

If we remove all the cupboard stuff in our B+ there are a lot of exposed wires, plus some bolts, etc.

I removed the old tub type TV and put in a LED TV. The exposed area behind the TV gets hot when the sun is shining. I used some 1/8 plywood to create a nice finished area behind the TV. The back of the plywood is insulated so it minimizes the amount of heat reflected into the living area. Now I can swing the TV out and access storage behind the TV.

Just use the TV as the front of the storage area.

Many people are doing this. Entertainment centers are kind of "different" now days. Flat TV's (smart TV's) that have wifi. No more dvd players needed as people stream.... Lots of options today where the big bulky setups are not needed. Also some folks don't do "tv" while camping.... to each their own. :) But yes, you'll get a very large storage area. I've seen some where matching cabinet doors were put where the center was. It looked like a simple "pull and door up" install (looked pretty nice with good brass hinges).

Well, I did it - removed the entertainment center and so far have installed the floor. I now have a storage area measuring 87 inches wide, 38 inches deep at the center line tapering to 18 inches on the ends. Plenty of room for sleeping bags, umbrellas, bag chairs and other assorted stuff. My cats will love it.

Now I'm trying to decide what to do for the walls. Framing seems too difficult with all the curves and angles. Thinking of glueing carpet or wallpaper or maybe just painting.

Any suggestions? Anybody else do this?
