IMHO, small-to-medium sized Class C U.S. shoppers are getting "taken for a ride" regarding so much building on the Sprinter chassis.
Just for a few more MPG and a little more cab leg room, it's not worth the extreme systems complexity (i.e. read about some of the 2019 Sprinter "features"), service location hassle, service expense, and streamlined cab front end. My BIL sold his new at the time Sprinter 3500 based Class B after only a couple of years of ownership, as it was breaking down too much, repair was too far from his home (let alone trying to get repairs on a trip), and he didn't care for the sometimes irritating hunt and/or waiting-in-line for diesel fuel on RV trips.
We love the solid Ford E450 under our little rig. It drives like a van and it's cab is OK for my 6'2" frame. Ford and Chevy should not have let Mercedes erode their share of the U.S. Class B/C market like they did - when some tweaks on gas mileage and cab legroom were maybe all that was needed. Ford V10 fuel cost pales in comparison to the expenses over time of properly maintaining the coach part of any motorhome. I for one don't need a tricky chassis to maintain ... especially considering that chassis problems can impact trips far more negatively than coach problems.
Maybe I'm too much in love with Keep It Simple Stupid RV'ing. :)
