I too agree with you. In our case we own an E350-V10 chassis. It's about the best chassis and drive train available for value, capability, reliability, serviceability, and over-all operating costs. And like you say, it's not bad with regard to comfort.
I would not be comfortable traveling to the places we do with a Sprinter. It is great when everything is working right, but a real nightmare when it isn't. Then adding that the closest Sprinter repair facility is likely far far away....the cons far outweigh the pros for me.
Ron ... well said!
The DW and myself are rockhounds, so we too "would not be comfortable traveling to the places we do with a Sprinter". Some of the places where we go I worry enough about our E450 chassis ... let alone if we were to try and get/stay/leave there via a complex Sprinter chassis.
Speaking of the above - maybe it's just my imagination - but in nearly all photos I see of Sprinter based Class C motorhomes their coach walls and cab structures seem to be awfully close to the ground (I call them Highway Queens). Our Class C has pretty good clearance all the way around and underneath, which is at least as good as a non-lifted stock-wheeled pickup truck. Our 158" chassis wheelbase also helps to reduce chances of high-centering or rock rubs when traveling on rough roads. Most Sprinter based Class C motorhomes seem to have around a 170" wheelbase ... which makes for a smoother ride ... assuming one is traveling on an even road surface.
One thing going for the newer Sprinter chassis under a Class C is - I believe that they can be ordered from Mercedes in a 4WD configuration - nice! :C
