Class C suggestions

I have a post over on Class B looking for suggestions, but since I got to stand inside a Class B I realized it is too small for me. So here I am looking for the good and bad in the class C or B+.
I plan on retiring in a little over a year and want to travel around the country. I am single and will most likely travel alone or with a friend or 2. I want something small and with multiple places to sleep. I have looked at some models and I'd like feedback on good points and bad points. Thanks for your help.
  • Definitely shop around and see/peruse every option you can find. In our case we took up a used 2008 Winnie View, 24-ft unit. At this time its perfect for us, has the 3.0L Turbo Diesel, Sprinter based.

I have some posts here about engine oil/filter and trans fluid.
  • A real good Class C is the Chinook, they're not made anymore, but quality was first class. They were last made in about 2004-05, and the size is usually in the 22-24 ft range. Check out a used one to see if one would suit your needs, at least the price is less expensive than new Class C's off the dealers lot.
  • If you're looking for something new, Nexus RV has what I consider a very nice floor plan on a 24'11 MH. Last weekend while camping on the west coast of Fl. my wife and I drove an extra 80 miles or so to look at one. It has one full length slide with a walk around bed. We both really liked it.
I think this floor plan will catch on, since so many people are looking for a walk around bed in a shorter MH.
  • I did like the Phoenix Cruiser 2350 I saw online. I have to see what Born Free has. I am not sure if I would want as big as a 27' but thAnks for all the info. I will check them out.
  • If you want sleeping comfort, you need a Class C rig with a rear bedroom and RV queen sized bed. You need at least a 27 foot rig to get a rear bedroom. 27 footers are fairly easy to manuever and park in shopping malls, city parks and tourist attractions in addition to RV parks, and primitive federal and state forest campsites. A 27 footer also has less comfortable sleeping accomodations for quests in the overhead and a convertible dinette or "jacknife couch. With bad knees etc, climbing up and down a ladder for the overhead bed quickly loses it's charm.

I went to the RV show in Atlantic City. That's where I realized the B is small. There were a few small C's but mostly class A monsters. They are huge. I am thinking about something 25' or less.

Larger Camping Worlds will have class c's on the lot. Look at the better known brands like Winnebagos. Don't forget the Born Frees and the Phoenix Cruisers either. Personally we're partial to the Phoenix Cruisers for a number of reasons. They also offer several smaller Class Cs. Phoenix Cruisers

  • I think you might be happy with one of the RVs on the "Sprinter" chassis. It's almost a new category...larger than the normal "B" van, but small for the typical "C". One of the nice things, is the diesel engine, and the excellent fuel mileage that is reported.

Or you may want the to get one of the smaller "C" units that Winnebago or other well known brands produce. I think you will probably find them to actually be a bit less expensive than the Sprinters, and they will provide you with additional space, which becomes more important the longer you plan to spend in the RV.
The heavier chassis of the "C", will allow for a slide or two, as well as allow you to tow a Toad if you desire.

Best suggestion that I've heard of, over the years......is to go to an RV Show, and try them out for size.....lay on the beds, make believe you're cooking in the galley, sit on the toilet, stand in the shower......see just how well you fit.:)
THEN, you can make a more educated decision.

    Good Luck
