The MAIN thing you have to do is clean all of the old calcium and other deposits off of your glass that have built up over the years. I have used Lime-a-way, and a few of the other products that are for removing calcium deposits around the house. This should be liberally applied with a cotton cloth, let sit for a few minutes, and wiped off with a dry cotton cloth. Be careful to keep this product off of your paint or interior surfaces. Once all of the various deposits are off of the glass, I use a mixture of DISTILLED water(available at most grocery stores for a little over $1/gallon) and white vinegar, Windex, or InvisaGlass to clean the glass. Newspaper works well to remove streaks.
