Cleaning / waxing the Class B fiberglass top

The Zep/Red Max Pro Application Process will do a nice job cleaning your 20 year old fiberglass top.

If you don't want to use Zep (floor wax) just apply the car wax of your choice.
Cleaning and prep is the important part.
The top will look great.

Thanks for the advice and the archive link. I searched for cleaning fiberglass and received no hits, but I will remember now to search on oxidation.

Once a year I use Ajax or Comet cleanser and a scrub brush to get out all the black spots, etc. I rinse it well. I may use Protect All after that or wait until the next regular washing. It is fiberglass and will last forever.

The best thing to do is get it painted white. I think around 2005 Rt started painting all the fiberglass roofs.

It really depends on how badly oxidized the surface is. On my 15 year old Class B roof the clear coat was peeling off from the sun and the surface had a lot of gelcoat cracks. I was working at the time and seldom waxed the roof. On my 20 year old Class A front and rear caps they were highly oxidized but no cracks, Bar Keepers Friend and TSP did a good job of removing the oxidation. As the surface ages from the sun it gets harder it bring back the shine with just hand polishing and you may have to use a machine polisher. A Class B roof is small and would be hard at least for me to machine polish so you may want to consider the Zeps process which I started to use at year 16 and it has held up for 4 years with just washing except for the front caps which I have reapplied because of removing the bug splatters.

You could use Flitz Polish as well- it works for Metal or Fiberglass. Did a beautiful job on my 38 year-old B's Paint! I will be painting my Fiberglass Top in a few weeks so I need to clean and lightly sand it first. Thanks for the info!

If it's only oxidized and doesn't need a repaint consider a product called Oxygone. It's made by a company called Dry Wash n Guard and can be found in many places on the internet. I have not used it but, based on my use of others of their products, I would definitely try it.

UPDATE: yes, I believe just oxidized, no need for paint. I became much more familiar with it yesterday, and have more work scheduled for today. I ended up giving a try with things I had on hand, and I can always follow up with other methods as I read more, and check some of the products suggested. I have done some basic washing and rubbing with shop paper towels to get a lot of the loose oxidation off. Then I scrubbed with a clay based cleaner (Bio Cleaner, which my wife had on had) and a lightly abrasive sponge. That worked wonders, taking off black spots, dirt, and discoloration. I finished with car wax. I think for today I will try a second wash after rinsing, before waxing. I will definitely check out the products recommended, but I needed to work promptly this weekend, because I decided the cleanup was necessary to look presentable!
