cleveland to Maine

going to Acadia Natl. Park in Maine this summer and would like to travel up the coast from Boston. Are they any good places to stay around Boston? Any recommendations as I plan this trip would be great. I have a 32ft. Fleetwood and do not have a toad, so sight seeing requires a rental or driving and parking the RV.
  • Been to all that have been mentioned and Minuteman is bar far the best bet for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that is not out of your way heading to ME. Also, the owners and staff are fantastic in helping with any info you may need about the area. And finally, it is a really easy on and off 495 which is the way you will most likely be going to ME.

    Enjoy and travel safe.
  • We just stayed for a week at Minuteman in Sept. and found the hosts very helpful and would stay there again.
  • Around Boston it's either Normandy Farms to the south or Minuteman to the north. There is a CG in Salem, but it's tough to bet to and not very practical. Of the two, I would pick Normandy Farms. Either would allow you to spend some time in Boston. I would then head to Bar Harbor (Acadia) and spend whatever time you want there. It's a great place. Then if you have any spare time you may want to hit Boothebay, Freeport, Portland and Portsmouth. But they are all secondary to time in Bar Harbor.
  • Around Boston...close....nothing that I know of.

Within driving distance of about an hour.....

Normandy Farms in Foxboro, MA on the south side is probably the best bet. Scusset beach state park on the cape cod canal offers nice recreation opportunities on the canal and a beach but no sewage hookups. Hampton beach, NH state park if no pets is about an hour out of Boston and you can be waterfront at the mouth of the Hampton harbor with full hookups. Salisbury beach MA state park is a bit closer than Hampton but not as nice as Hampton IMO.

Loads of places in Maine, try rvpparkreviews.com
  • Consider stopping in Freeport Maine. It's a nice town and you can walk it easily.
LL Bean is the main attraction.
Last I knew you could overnight in the town parking lot near LL Bean and the outlets.
However, I have not been there in several years so I can't verify the overnighting.
Personally, I think it is worth the time to stop at Freeport.
  • Any recommendation on place between Boston and Maine would be welcomed also.
