CO/ LP Gas Alarm

Thank you all for your help in the past. Now I'm having trouble with the CO/LP gas alarm going off after the motorhome is parked and plugged in at my home. We came back from a short trip, plugged in, went in the house and about 4 hours later the alarm went off. No one was in the motorhome at the time. There was no odor. I didn't use any special cleaner that may have an odor. I checked the stove and the refrigerator to make sure it was not on gas. I turned the refrigerator off and then back on again. It did it over and over again. Finally I just let it go and it stopped after about 10 minutes. It didn't do it again. Are there batteries or a fuse that needs to be changed? Does the whole monitor need to be changed after a while?

  • We have a 2010 Forest River Sunseeker 2860D. I'm sorry, I forgot to include that in my post. The batteries are fully charged and I didn't see a reset button on the monitor. We will check the batteries because the monitor is near the floor when you walk in the door which is also real close to the outside batteries.
  • It's probably aging out. New one, 10 minute job to replace the old.
  • Check the house battery if it is gassing of it will turn the LP alarm the Co2 alarm is higher up and should not turn on unless there is some sort of combustion.

Lead acid batteries will boil over and produce gas that the sensor picks up, if the battery needs water use distilled water and not tap water, be carfull when filling, if it is empty I would recomend replacing the battery.

  • What make and year rig do you have? First I would make sure that there are no LP leaks. Also make sure the battery disconnect switch wasn't engaged and your coach batteries are charged. Every time our rig is serviced they turn off the batteries and we have to reset the LP detector. There is a reset button on the detector. There are no batteries for the LP detector.
We have a separate LP detector that is not the CO2 detector. Our CO2 detector did start sounding for no reason in our 2004 class A. I found out online that they start doing that when they are going bad. We replaced the CO2 detector.
