There may be an advantage to OBD 1...
Depending on the vehicle (And you WILL need a manual to tell you how to do this)
On my 1992 Lumina (OBD 1) All I had to do was connect two pins together with a paper clip and read the flashing light (Like on an Onan Generator)
Then look it up.
With my OBD II new towed I have to plug in a reader.
NOTE.. .Mine was a GM system and because of that I won't even hint at which pins. but if Ford OBD 1 is the same.. Readers sure are inexpensive.
