Cold weather suitable?

I am looking at a 1998 Thor Residency as a school year home for my son who attends college in Siloam Springs Arkansas. I have never owned a motorhome. How can I tell if this will make it through the winter without freezing up. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Here's the motorhome link.

Thank you

  • Apartment rental will cost 15-20k for the next 3 years. Figured this way we could at least recover some of the cost.
What do you think the most efficient heating system would be. Heat pump?
Why the comment about continually fixing things. Is the Thor a cheeper model prone to break down.
    Thanks for your insight
  • Considering the age of the coach and manufacture you are not going to find much documentation concerning it's cold weather suitability.

To better narrow your search look for certain key words such as dual pane windows, enclosed tanks, heated tanks. Manufactures are more focused on building a coach for warm weather rather than cold but there might be few you can afford just don't know where to direct you to look.

You might have better luck with a travel trailer than a class A.
  • Just curious how come living in an RV over an apartment? Does your son want to spend his free time fixing things? Also, welcome to the forum!
  • Your are going to spend a ton of money just for Propane for heat depending on how warm you want to stay.
