Combo Washer/Dryer, is this right?

Last week I was looking at a late model American Eagle and it had a combo washer/dryer. Everything I've read about them said "bad idea" they take forever to run a load!

When I said that to the salesman he told me that's true but if the combo unit has an exhaust to the outside it works much better.

Do you guys agree with that?

He also said there was enough room for both washer and dryer and they could install it in the coach. I didn't ask what that would cost.

Thanks,

HJ
  • He was correct in that the vented model does dry more quickly and I'm sure you will get a lot of responses on the merits and demerits of the combo unit.

Our 2000 Beaver had a vented model and our 2002 Marquis has a ventless model necessitated by location. Both work fine and DW will not be without one regardless of a bit more drying time.

Stacked units are nice but you do lose a lot of storage so that is a consideration. For us, the combo works just fine and it's not worthwhile to consider changing.

IMHO, don't worry about it until you've been using the combo for a year or so than evaluate you options.
  • HOM, we had a 'combo' unit in a rental and I really don't remember if it was vented or not. All I can say is, the clothes came out SO wrinkled that the wrinkles had wrinkles. I would rather have a combo unit than nothing as we find it convenient to have a washer/dryer in the unit.

I think there is a technique to pull the clothes out just before they are dry to prevent the wrinkling. You just can't beat a separate washer and dryer set-up. A new set of separate units would cost about $1,500.
