The naysayers will come and poo poo this too but they have no idea the enormity of what he is trying to accomplish. Changing years of ingrained behavior and culture in a large organization is a monumental task that takes time. He has shown he is willing to make that effort and that counts for something with me.
Actually, that large organization grew under Marcus's watch. When he obtained Camping World, the firm David Garvin developed, it was basically a stand alone retail and mail order firm. Marcus is the one who purchased all of these independent RV sales and service stores and grew them into a giant chain. I doubt that all of those independent stores all had the same "ingrained behavior and culture." What has developed into an organization that often shows contempt for its customer all developed under Marcus's watch. I give him credit for trying to solve the monumental problem he created, but the answers to the two questions I posed remain unanswered.
1. Why does it take the CEO of an organization to solve problems that store level management should and could have resolved?
2. Why do these problems keep happening?
Since I have engaged in this sort of activity for a number of years in a very large corporation with many independent locations who developed their own way of doing things I will just say you probably just don't get it. Marcus is doing exactly what is necessary to change an ingrained culture. I admire the effort he has put into it and it will pay off huge in the future.
