If it has the GM gauges they used "Step Motors" (about 2" in diameter) for the gauges and during those years they would fail and be unreliable.
I had to replace the motors on my 2004 Chevy PU because most were going bad.
The improved 6 motors for my gauge panel cost $16.00 on ebay and I had to solder them in.
There are companies that repair them in the $2-300.00 range.
